jersey devil first of all, MASSIVE thank you to grey for these INCREDIBLE lines.
nestled comfortably in the folklore of southern new jersey (and philidelphia) is the jersey devil, sometimes known as the leeds devil, rumoured to be lurking in the pine barrens of southern new jersey...
it is typically described as a "flying biped" (a creature that stands on two legs) with hooves, but there are lots...and lots...and lots of variations. one of the more popular and specific descriptions (that doesn't contradict the previous description) is the following:
a flying kangaroo-like or wyvern-like creature (those are...rather different, but okay) with a horse-like or goat-like head, leathery wings like those of a bat, small arms with claws, legs with hooves like those of a horse, and a forked tail. it is reportedly very fast, and emits a high-pitched "blood-curdling scream," which is terrifying and i don't like it </3
there are many, many different origin stories for the jersey devil, but lets go with the most popular one, and maybe a surface look at some alternate ones. ready? im not waiting for an answer. to make things easier, i will be writing the legend down as if it is fact, because, well, there are only so many synonyms for "reportedly."
way, way back in the 1730s, there was a resident of the pine barrens named jane leeds, typically referred to as "mother leeds" for spooky cool horror factor. mother leeds had twelve children, because they didnt have birth control in the eighteenth century. upon finding out that she was pregnant for the thirteenth time (jesus christ,) mother leeds cursed her unborn child in a fit of rage, announcing that the child would be the devil (i think i spoke too soon with that "jesus christ" thing...)
anyway, on a stormy night in 1735, mother leeds went into labour surrounded by her friends. child number thirteen was...perfectly normal. sike! although the child was born normal, it then transformed into, you guessed it, a creature with hooves, a goat's head, bat wings, and a forked tail. "growling and screaming." it beat mother leeds and her friends with its tail, then flew up the chimney and into the forest, as you do. i hate it when i give birth to a child who then turns into a vaguely-demonic beast who beats the shit out of me and all of my friends, then flies up the chimney i dont have and into the woods that are NOT in my backyard. in some versions of this legend, mother leeds was a witch and the child's father was literally the devil.
anyway, the jersey devil was blamed for many an attack on livestock during the nineteenth century and on, and stories continue to this day.
but that's all just a story, right?

your name: salvation. clan they're going to: the fallen (cs) what will you name them?: Batwing gender/pronouns: amab, they/them what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: neutral? that would be the best way to put it. their mother died when they were a kit due to illness so it was really just them and their father. albeit they don't talk much they have no dislike or hate towards him, they just wish that he would talk to them more. form number (in order of forms—first person is 1, next person is 2, etc etc:) 1

your name: broken* clan they're going to: celestial beings what will you name them?: leatherback gender/pronouns: male /// he/him what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: not good at all. his parents relationship with one another had been struggling for awhile but they had decided to stay together for their unborn kits. but when leather was born, his father looked at him in disgust. his parents got into a screaming match about their kit because his father wanted to kill him for being a “monster”. one night, his mother snuck away with him to keep him safe. She died as a result of a freak incident moons later. form number (in order of forms—first person is 1, next person is 2, etc etc:) 2

your name: ponz clan they're going to: Golden Kingdom what will you name them?: Wraith gender/pronouns: he/him, amab what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: Wraith doesn't know of any biological parents. His appearance was enough to frighten them away, he assumes. But just because he doesn't know the cats that he was born to doesn't mean Wraith doesn't have a family! Jester and Ghost, two wandering strays, took him in for most of his kittenhood and raised him. He was fond of them both, two kind and cheerful ex-kittypets dead-set on seeing the world and meeting all different sorts of cats. Eventually, once Wraith got too big and too "scary-looking" (even though both parents protested this conclusion), he set off on his own so that Jester and Ghost wouldn't be held back on their adventures by an intimidating tagalong. He's been alone ever since, and hasn't seen or spoken to either cat in what feels like an eternity. Wraith misses them a great deal, and hopes that somewhere, wherever they are, they miss him too. form number: 3

your name: bsktcase clan they're going to: Wiltedbarren what will you name them?: sloughclan gender/pronouns: they/them, amab what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: They don't remember much about their parents at all. Both died when they were fairly young. By what no one really knows, but it left them to fend for themselves from a young age. Maybe they never truly passed on and simply abandoned them in the forest. Though they'd rather think of them as passed as it hurts more to believe they didn't want them. form number (in order of forms—first person is 1, next person is 2, etc etc:) 4

your name: sharpiesandhamilton clan they're going to: chessclan what will you name them?: tempêtebringer gender/pronouns: non-binary ; they/them ; amab what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: tempêtebringer hasn’t seen their parents since the storm that separated the family. before, they were close and loving and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. their vast difference in their appearance seemed to do nothing to diminish the love their parents felt for them. they spent many moons trying to find them, even joining chessclan in the hopes they were there. it took a certain cat a couple moons, but tempêtebringer eventually calmed and accepted that they might never find their parents again. (sneak peek for future for them? their parents are found and a happy reunion!) form number (in order of forms—first person is 1, next person is 2, etc etc:) 5

your name: Ariento clan they're going to: SuburbClan what will you name them?: Corneliaheart gender/pronouns: Female (She/Her) what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: Corneliaheart was the only survivor of a litter of four - her siblings were all stillborn. Her biological mother rejected Corneliaheart, because the kit's frightful appearance led her to believe the kit responsible for her siblings' deaths. Her father still wanted to care for her, but he was unable to produce the milk she needed to survive. Desperate to save his daughter's life, he took her to a twoleg's doorstep, and started yowling. When the twoleg approached the door, he hid in the bushes. The twoleg adopted Corneliaheart, giving her her initial name, Cornelia. Cornelia viewed her housefolk as her mother, as the middle-aged twoleg had been the one to feed and care for her in her kithood. Cornelia also kept in touch with her father, as an outdoor cat she was allowed to roam and interact with ferals like her dad. He was no longer with her mother, and he doted over his daughter like she was still a kit. Cornelia found him a tad overbearing and embarrassing, but she loved him no matter how much he annoyed her. form number (in order of forms—first person is 1, next person is 2, etc etc:) 6

your name: carpe noctem. clan they're going to: white stag castle what will you name them?: riverine gender/pronouns: cismale - he/him what is this cat's relationship with their parents like?: riverine resents his parents for how they treated him, having shunned him since birth because of his appearance. he has little memory of them, only a vague recollection of their faces, painted with horror as they looked down upon him. he was abandoned at a young age, likely still a nursing kit, though he was found by an older dame who welcomed him into her heart, and taught him the values he upholds to this day. in many ways, she was his true mother, and he remembers only warm memories with her. so, whilst his relationship with his biological parents is broken and dark- his relationship with true family is a one of warmth and unwavering loyalty.
