You hear a rustling in the wood───what could that be, a mouse? No, you reckon, it was something different. So different, in fact, you can barely recognize it. Beneath the cover of the long, dense, draping tendrils of a willow tree, lies the grounds of a creek so congested with spiritual activity it sends shockwaves through your bones. Many, many moons ago, a great massacre took place under this towering willow tree, murdering an entire Clan, helpless queens and kits included. Now, the land is littered with its ancient remnants───the blood of the fallen seeped into the churning tides of the creek, and buried just beneath the surface of the ground you stand are their bones. They leave their mark on those who venture there even to this day. iindentWillowclan was founded by a rogue separated from their family, harboring a special gift that enabled them to be able to speak to the dead. Upon the discovery of these active grounds, they decided to settle themselves and their small band of followers in order to tend to the wandering souls whom promised protection and reward for their obedience. In agreement, the leader traveled to the single white willow they call the Red Tree to meet with the fallen. However, no matter what time of the day, week, month, or year, the leader is always encountering spirits───they see and hear them around every corner, and they are constantly bombarded with their memories. In order to preserve this gift given to the leader, their first child born with the gift will become the one to inherit the throne at their parent's passing or once they have retired. Those with Divine Blood, as it is often called, will only be those to take-over as the leader, no others. If there does come a time when the leader passes and an heir has not yet been produced, often the spirits will take matters into their own paws to reward a cat they feel worthy enough to lead. iindentBut is it really a gift, or a curse? iindentThe Clan’s territory encompasses an entire creek and the swampy marshland surrounding it───the banks are lined with cattails, reeds, and, of course, willow trees, with their leaves swaying at the water's edge. The creek is often abundant with fish and other prey of the like during spring and summer. After a hurricane tore through the area many moons ago, uprooted and fallen trees are the best sources of shelter among the grounds. Just a few foxlengths shy of the creek, the group resides among these fallen trees to rest, recuperate, and go about their daily business. A commonplace toward the center of the camp is where they gather to share tongues and simply converse, or to attend meetings with the leader. Outside of these spiritual grounds are a scattering of dense swamp and overgrown marshes, places none other than border patrols or hunting parties will dare roam. The Clan rarely touches-paw further than the swamp lines, where a great river rushes and gurgles, separating the safety of their dark forest from a bright, unexplored valley. iindentAfter sickness and harsh weather conditions disbanded the Clan many moons ago, a descendant of their past leader, born with the gift, or All Seeing Eye, has arisen. Guided by the spirits, they return with their rag-tag band of followers to reclaim these sacred grounds and start anew. It is now up to them to restore what once began here under these weeping willow trees . . .[/ul][/ul] ( note: the gift has no gameplay effect, it is simply for storytelling features. ) ( transferring my second clan onto here as my first clan. may this cat be my leader? ) [/font]

Archive: WIP Number of Cats: 1 (0 males | 1 females) Next Starclan Visit: Here Servings Needed: 2 (0-6) Pebbles: 0--- Far away from the two-legs below the large looming mountains, traveled a small round fawn colored she-cat. Her bright amber eyes piercing through the thick underbrush as she traveled deeper in the ivy covered forest. She had been travelling for moons, searching for a place to call her own. To take hold of and set up a clan like the ones she was told stories about when she was a young kit. Finally upon stumbling across a large abandoned ivy covered two-leg home, Snail knew this was the place she was meant to find. She didn't hesitate to explore the old home, making a make shift nest out of leaves and moss she found. Smiling she decided to explore farther, in hopes to find some where she could get connect to The Stars.
As she left her newly found camp, Snail began marking her borders, to warn cats that this territory was claimed. The fawn colored she-cat made her way towards the large mountains that loomed high above, making her way up the cliff side slowly. A sound of rushing water caused the she-cat to perk her ears, following the sound until she came to a sparkling pool of water the cascaded down one side. Drawn by the beautiful sight before her, Snail stepped closer leaping onto a flat rock big enough for three cats. There she stood, mesmerized by the water and sights before her. Something inside her urged her to take a sip of water, letting the cool water trickle down her throat. It wasn't long before Snail was whisked off to a deep slumber. Upon awakening, she realized she wasn't awake, but dreaming. Around her stood many starry cat figures. some familiar faces and some not.
A cinnamon colored tom and fawn colored she-cat padded forward, smiles on both of their faces. Snail smiled at both her parents, touching their noises before stepping back. "It's so good to see you honey." the she-cat purred, beaming brightly at her daughter before her. The tom gave a small, smiling a bit. "It truly is. I see you have found the falls. Here is where you can come to speak to us and other future clan ancestors. So darling, what have you decided to name your clan?" he asked. Snail smiled brightly before speaking a single word. REALM OF DROWNING LIGHT population. 001 males.. 001 females. 000 servings. 02 pebbles. 20T h piercing amber eyes of a black oriental cat seemed to light up the darkness of the night, like a pair of blinding flames illuminating the onyx skies. He sat along the rocky edge of a high cliff, gazing at the waters below his paws, only mere feet away from him; If he was to walk even the step of a mouse, he could surely plummet to his death, falling into icy water eager to consume yet another life.
He opened his maw to release a throaty purr, "Now, now, my divine gods. Your time of feasting has yet to come." He grinned darkly. "Your followers will rise in numbers, and with such you shall receive our offerings of worship."
The waves continue to roar beneath the cliffs, slamming violently into the rocky edges on the wall of the cliff. The wind picked up, and beneath its fierce cry lay another noise; one feline, distinct to the oriental. The gods.
Umbra grinned with satisfaction, pleased that the divine spirits from below approved of his words. He knew the feat wouldn't be easy, but one day, he'd sit at the top of the lighthouse, watching his troops dutifully tear away defectors from their families and throw them into the dark abyss below.
Oh! What a truly wonderful thought!; Umbra tipped his head sideways as he thought more about leading a group. He knew exactly what must be done, he was apart of the former Realm, of course. The oriental remembered the former place of residence, another lighthouse far away, old and outdated.
He grimaced briefly at the memories of rubble and debris falling from above, showering him and the rest of the Realm cats in the stone and other building materials of the lighthouse. He was the only one to survive, along with his assigned mate, Lux.
At the thought of Lux, Umbra swatted his tail sharply. He never knew how he felt about her. One second, she was a gift from heaven and the next a present from hell. Umbra couldn't understand his feelings for her. Was it love? Was it just a liking towards a pretty face and striking eyes? Was he simply faking his love, still trying to show his long-dead parents that he would be a suitable Emperor?
Those bastards. He never forgot how they treated him. Umbra was firstborn, heir to the throne of The Realm. He was assigned to become mates with Lux at a young age, as his parents had an ongoing feud with Lux's parents, and clearly they needed to involve their children instead of settling it like adults. Umbra considered himself nothing more than a token to them, easily tossed aside for the next shiny thing. He rolled his eyes.
He was going to make sure he would be the person you couldn't take your eyes away from. He was going to be Emperor.
And he was going to be feared.
;COMMANDS. Umbra requests Lux from the gods. Umbra goes hunting. Umbra patrols

Mousestar walked along the trail that led up to the flat plain a little bit up the mountain, she had already caught a lemming today but she hoped to find something else before she retreated back to camp. She sped up slightly, the pebble in the ground cold on her pads.
Reaching the plain she opened her mouth, trying to catch a scent. Slowly walking on she kept her mouth ajar. She shut her mouth as she scented something, but it didn't smell like prey. She squinted her eyes and cautiously kept walking. She kept walking, approaching a holly bush that grew near one of the smaller aspens on the plain. She itched her nose closer, ready to be raced with either danger or prey. Mousestar was ready to jump into the bush to confront the thing head-on but just before she could-
HISSSS. Someone rammed into her side, she felt claws graze her cheek. Mousestar yowled and sunk her claws into the intruder's ears, kicking her hind legs into their side. The intruder bit into Mousestar's shoulder, using their hind claws to strike at Mousestar's back. Mousestar and the cat rolled over, stilling clawing and hissing. The cat raised their claws and brought them down on Mousestar's neck. Instead of hitting her neck, like they likely intended, but it hit her collar which she had yet to remove. The material of the collar was tattered in the area, Mousestar felt the collar fall from her neck. The intruder looked slightly confused, not noticing the collar when they first attacked her.
Mousestar kicked her hind legs into the cat's belly, sending them falling back. Mousestar rushed a tail-length away from the intruder, bristling. The gray cat was partly laying, their hind legs splayed out as they used their front paws to lift their top half. They were panting, the wind seemed to be knocked out of them. It took them a few minutes before they got up again, glaring over at Mousestar.
Mousestar straighten up, "Hello?" she meowed. The gray cat looked confused for a moment before shaking their head, "Hi." Mousestar moved a pawstep closer "I'm Mousestar." The cat sat down "Walnut."
Moving a little closer to Walnut, Mousestar asked "Where are you from?" Walnut didn't respond for a moment but answered "Far from here," she paused "How about you, Mousestar?" Mousestar glanced at the path they traveled up "From the village but, I live in the valley." Walnut looked slightly more interested in Mousestar's words "The valley?" Mousestar ears perked up "Yes, I live in Icicleclan."
Walnut looked incredibly invested. Mousestar puffed up her chest "Speaking of which, would you like to join Icicleclan. It's only me but I'm sure will get more members soon and then it will be even better-" Walnut cut in "I'll join." Mousestar's eyes widened "A-are you sure?" Walnut nodded.
Mousestar smiled, "GREAT!" she chirped. Walnut walked up to Mousestar, slightly grinning "Lead the way."

Snowy stumbled blindly through the grass, tears streamed down her cheeks. She missed Queenie.
Queenie had been there for Snowy since her parents had abandoned her in the snow. Her and Queenie shared little in common, Queenie was a dog and Snowy was a cat, Queenie loved to play with the housefolk kits who lived next to their housefolk and Snowy didn't like the little gremlins in the slightest. But they were family, Queenie was Snowy's mother and no one could convince her otherwise. Snowy knew something wasn't right when Queenie didn't get out of the bed the other morning. The housefolk had scooped her up and taken her to the vet, Queenie didn't tell Snowy what happened at the vet and instead insisted to sleep with her that night.
Queenie didn't wake up the next morning. She was cold and stiff, her eyes closed. Snowy thought she was playing around, she had to be, right?
Queenie was dead. Snowy didn't want to believe it. Snowy had run away from the house, it just reminded her of Queenie. She had walked for a while now, she didn't recognize her surroundings.
Snowy slowed as she came across a fence, she came closer to the fence and got ready to leap. She leaped, but she must have misjudged, she hit her belly on the rim of the stone fence. She was sent face-first into the long grass on the other side. "Damn fence!" she snarled. She laid in the dewy grass for a moment before sitting up. She glanced over the lake of long grass, dots of lupines the only thing to cut up the lake. She closed her eyes, pressing a paw to her face.
"Hello?"
Snowy's eyes shot open, a few tail-lengths in front of her stood a very threatening gray molly and a small cream-colored molly. The gray molly stood just behind the other one, the cream one staring at her. Snowy was confused "Hey?"
The cream cat spoke up "Hello, I'm Mousestar. This," she pointed at the gray molly behind her "This is Pinebranch." She curled her tail "We were looking for new members for Icicleclan and were wondering if you would like to join us?" Snowy stared at the cats "Icicleclan?" Pinebranch spoke this time "We live in the mountains, we live together in and group and care for the young and old and the injured." Mousestar rushed in after Pinebranch finished "Its only us right now, but I'm sure we will have more cats soon!"
Snowy thought about it, the housefolks didn't hold anything for her anymore and a change of scenery could help her ease the pain of losing Queenie. Snowy closed her eyes and breathed in.
"I'll join Icicleclan." she meowed. Mousestar smiled "WONDERFUL!" she screeched. "Come on! Will take you to the camp!"
x
Mousestar touched her nose to Snowy's forehead, "From this moment on you shall be called Blizzardwing. We welcome you as a full warrior of Icicleclan." Blizzardwing leaped down from the rock, followed by Mousestar. The three mollies grouped, Pinebranch nodding at Blizzardwing before speaking to Mousestar about something.
Blizzardwing closed her eyes, feeling a gust of wind prick her fur. Blizzardwing was excited about her new beginning, she hoped Icicleclan would be just as much a home to her as her original home.
Queenie, I hope you understand why I left.

| Two young warriors excitedly dart ahead of their patrol, eager to find any new sights before the older warriors. To their shock, they noticed that Twolegs were sitting out in groups in areas just past the Clan's territory. Even though the Twolegs aren't on the Clan's territory, it would still be a good idea to keep an eye out for them and their dogs. The sun is beating down heavily so the Twolegs and their dogs might not stay out all day, but that will also mean the Clan cats won't stay out long either.

Cold metal scraping against the mountainside was Ranger's new alarm. The Stone-Claw visits had been more frequent, with Ranger and Scout having to keep out of sight for the majority of daylight. Usually, the Stone-Claws had passed through their area and continued up the mountain, coming back down after a few days. Now, they were swarming the area and making what seemed to be settlements all around. There was little time for hunting while avoiding all the ruckus, and both of the cats bellies were feeling hollow.
SCRITCH. SCRITCH. SCRITCH. Ranger jolted awake shaking his head to push the old dream away. He didn't need those bitter thoughts intruding his mind. He rose into a lazy stretch. His belly was empty and his claws were sharp; a perfect recipe for a yummy breakfast. He made his way carefully down to the creek. The walk took quite some time; he didn't want to misstep and twist an ankle. He laid by the edge of the water and dipped his paws in. Keeping still, he eventually snagged a small pile of fish. His belly rumbled once more. What he wouldn't give to dig into this feast in front of him, but what if the Stone-Claws came to this place too? He would eat himself sick and then be forced to starve once more. No, it made more sense to save this food for later. He was still used to being hungry, so a few small nibbles left him feeling satisfied. He turned to look back to the rocks that provided him a nice shelter for the night. There were little signs of Stone-Claw interference in this valley. Had he finally found a safe haven? Ranger pushed his dash of hope away. His home was taken from him before, it could be taken from him again.
Ranger hid his fish under a pile of rocks. He wanted to explore this area better before climbing back to his den. He followed the stream and was led to a quiet grassland dotted with wildflowers. A tall boulder stood in the middle of the field. Ranger made his way towards it, feeling a strange pull from his heart. It looked like an ordinary rock. It felt like an ordinary rock. It tasted (Ranger quickly checked to make sure no one saw him lick the boulder) like an ordinary rock. "Hmph." Ranger grunted dissatisfied at the results. He would have sworn something was off about this place. Casting one last glare at the ordinary rock, he spun around and now faced a translucent cat and flinched. "Hello, Ranger." The faded cat somehow knew his name. "I am Sagestar, former leader of a clan who resided here long ago." "Clan?" Ranger frowned. "Where is it now?" "Destroyed. Forgotten. Finished." The starry tom said. "We are done, but you can remake our clan once more." Ranger snorted. "Why would I remake something that failed? If I live here, I will do so under my rules." Sagestar was visibly surprised at this response. "Very well. I cannot tell you how to live, but I can lend you a helping paw. This field is connected to the spirits that have passed before. We can always give guidance if you so choose to accept it." Ranger nodded, though he was more pleased that he was correct on his strange feeling about this place than anything this strange clan cat said. He was self-sufficient. He would ask for advice from cats who had successfully accomplished something, not some wack who failed his clanmates. He stepped past the tom intending to return to his den at the top of the hill with his morning's catch. "I will try to send another to join you." Sagestar called after the retreating tom. Ranger just flicked his tail. He learned young not to count on anyone else, so he wasn't very worried if the starry cat would keep his promise or not.
The following week went by smoothly. Ranger got into a routine of either fishing in the morning, basking in the sun until the afternoon, and walking to new parts of his territory into the evening, returning to his official den to watch the sunset. He had forgotten about his talk with Sagestar and thought about his old mountain life less and less. On a bright spring morning, Ranger was surprised by a molly already sitting next to his hunting spot. She turned to face him as he approached. "The cats of Starclan led me here." Her smile was gentle. "I hope you don't mind." "I mind their meddling." Ranger frowned. Something about those dead clan cats rubbed him the wrong way. "But I won't deny that you are sitting right in front of me either. Who are you?" "My name is Echo." She continued excitedly. "I've been thinking about my new clan name and come up with some good options! Though, you would get the final say of course." "Then your name is Echo. If a clan cannot prosper here, why start another? We will be a force to be reckoned with, we won't crumble." Ranger narrowed his eyes. "Do you agree to these terms?" Echo thought with widened eyes. "Yes, I think so." "Do you think or do you know?" "Uh, I know." Echo dipped her head. "I accept you as my leader." Ranger contemplated her words. "While I will lead, I want a to use a stronger word than leader. I cannot simply ask for cats to do as I say, I must command them." "A commander?" Echo suggested. "Let me think about it some more." Ranger wasn't in the mood to try to fish or hunt anymore, his mind was elsewhere. "Come with me. I'll show you where you will sleep."
Echo proved to be a good cat to have around. She was young and eager to learn, accompanying Ranger to map out the remainder of the valley that fell under their territory. She listened to his warnings of potential Stone-Claw sightings with rapt attention. Echo found soft reeds and cotton by the stream bank to line their nests, and Ranger now had decided that she would be ready to prove her loyalty to...him? them? their clan? No, they most certainly would never be a clan. A force to be reckoned with, he thought. He swept a few stray pebbles out of his alcove. His den was over Echo's sleeping area. She stayed under the overhang surrounded by bushes and this is where most of the cats would reside. A small shriek was heard from the overhang. Ranger poked his head over the edge and saw a startled Echo staring back up at him. "It's raining pebbles." Echo flicked one ear in annoyance. "Right, sorry about that." Ranger responded. "But if you could join me up here that would be wonderful." "What a way to get my attention." Echo muttered but scrambled up to the top of the boulders anyway. "It is time to prove your loyalty to me. To the Fanged Force." Ranger said. Echo shuffled her feet anxiously. "How do I do that?" "I've gotten many scars throughout my life. Each has a story to tell." Ranger did in fact have five scars. Two of them were on his flank, two on his shoulder, and a single scar crossing over his right eye. "A General will have five scars in the places that I do. Every rank a cat gains, earns another scar to signify their path to get there." "How many will I get?" "Two. One for learning about the Force like younger cats will eventually do and the second for becoming a full fledged Sergeant of the Force. An honor." Ranger unsheathed his claws. "Are you ready?" Echo closed her eyes tightly. "Yes." Ranger cut the first mark deep into her skin. She flinched but didn't whine. He had been very impressed by her first few days adapting to the new regime, leaving a good sized mark to signal respect. The second mark on her right flank was perhaps a little more shallow but she was young. She would work harder. "Are you willing to die for the Force?" He asked. "On my Honor." Ranger allowed himself a faint smile. He wouldn't get too attached to this one. Everyone dies. Everything comes to an end. But he couldn't deny that having another cat at his side was pleasant.

Tikiclan lives on an unspecified tropical island. They live close to a beautiful beach and their habitat mostly makes up of a large rainforest. Typically, the days are warm and the nights are cold. In all seasons it rains, though more so in the cooler months. The island is also home to a volcano but it has been inactive for quite some time. They make their camp in a complex cave system. The mouth of the cave is the main area, where cats can often be seen sunning themselves. Furthur in there's separate sections of the cave where they build their nests. The cats of Tikiclan are water lovers. They are excellent swimmers and fishers. However the waters are also shark infested so they often don't swim far from the shore. At night they avoid the beach when the tide has come in. The cats that live here often have smooth and sleek coats. Personality wise, cats of Tikiclan are a relaxed eccentric bunch. They hardly argue and solve all conflicts through talking. When they have no warrior duties, they laze about soaking up the hot sun. Kits and young apprentices enjoy exploring the island. They worship a deity called The Sun Lion. Tikiclan cats often throw celebrations where they give thanks to The Sun Lion for the life he has given them. They are very superstitious and take any and all omens seriously. When a cat dies, Tikiclan cats believe The Sun Lion looks after them in the after live. They also refer to the night sky as the Sky Ocean. Tikiclan has a complicated and almost controversial history. In ancient times, Tikiclan held sacrifices to The Sun Lion which involved two chosen cats to battle to the death. It was to show their loyalty to The Sun Lion be sending him a capable new warrior. Eventually the clan was disbanded after a rebellion. Now one young cat, a descendant of the rebellion's leader, hopes to start Tikiclan anew. They hope to leave the cruel past behind and give Tikiclan the hopeful future it deserves... (My other clan, Acornclan will remain on CS. Also I prefer to have real cat pics :>)

myrtleclan ↠ territory myrtleclan's territory is partially made up of swampland, drying up as you reach the center. their camp is settled on a high plateau of sorts to avoid risks of flooding. this area is heavily forested and can be considered a peninsula.
appearances myrtleclan cats take advantage of the gift of camouflage. many cats sport dark coats and sleek bodies, perfect for swimming in the swamp. those who join myrtleclan's ranks from the outside can carry any pelt, although this can hinder what jobs they do within the clan.
abilities myrtleclan as a whole is mildly secretive and wary of newcomers, although they will welcome them in times of need. they are quick-witted and sharp thinkers. they are good swimmers, and often hunt for fish and toads in the swampy waters. land-hunting is a skill to be learned, not inherited. some cats are specifically directed towards land-hunting rather than river-hunting.

HAZIL'S REPLIES NEWLEAF ✿ -------------------------------
-----------------------
| The Season of Spring. During newleaf, kittings will run much smoother and the chances of the queens or kits dying during birth will go down dramatically. There is also a higher chance of you catch more prey than usual. The chances of catching greencough, whitecough and kittencough will go down. With all the snow melting, it is very likely that your territory will start flooding. There will also be more storms that will contribute to the flooding. The odds of finding new cats is very high. |

''What on earth do you mean I can't go into the ruins?'' Stormkit whined, pacing restlessly before Mottledwhisker - Only 2 moons old, and already Stormkit was trouble brewing. ''You don't know me, maybe I like putting my life in peril?'' The young molly blustered, stomping her paws crossly. How was Stormkit supposed to learn anything if Mottledwhisker didn't even let her explore the other half of the camp? Ears twitching, Stormkit watched the tortoiseshell's face grow tired and weary, yellow eyes piercing through her. Stormkit stared back with equally-yellow, adamant eyes. ''Please, mum!'' Stormkit huffed and puffed, marching up and down the length of the den. ''Or do you want me to tell the others who your favourite is?!'' She knew Mottledwhisker's favourite, even if she denied it. And why wouldn't she have a favourite? Ostrichkit was arrogant, Ibiskit was a crybaby and Greykit was a charmer, a polite and respectful young kit. He never complained when it was time to sleep and did exactly what he was told - In Stormkit's eyes, Greykit was boring but boring was what all the grown-ups loved. ''There will be consequences, and you'll face it!'' Stormkit spat, a bristling but small bundle of grey and white. ''Don't test me!''
Mottledwhisker simply sighed, cradling Greykit in her front-legs. ''Shhh, you're going to wake everyone up.'' She knew what that was like, and sleep felt like it had been so long ago. It would creep in through the night, soothing her breath and calming her heart, where she would slip into a peaceful dark - It was like a long-lost love to her, and it had been brutally murdered ever since Stormkit had learned to talk and walk. ''I said no, and it's final.'' Mottledwhisker ordered, her voice having a little more bite than she would've liked. ''Go to sleep, Stormkit.'' She sighed, eyeing down the spitfire in case she tried anything - The last time Stormkit had run away, it had been the middle of the night and 3 patrols had been sent out before they'd found her shivering on the banks of the stream, soaked to the bone. Cannastar had not been impressed, and had threatened to hold back Stormkit's apprenticeship - Mottledwhisker feared the thought of Stormkit staying in the nursery for any longer than 6 moons, and was determined to get Stormkit to settle down. If not for Stormkit's sake, but for the sake of her own sanity and need to sleep.
Grumbling, Stormkit glared at Greykit and reluctantly slunk to Mottledwhisker's side. She knew what that tone meant, and Stormkit didn't want to repeat the experience by the stream - It had been cold and Stormkit had been terrified. Although, she would never confess that to anyone and certainly not to her mother that she had almost drowned that night. Settling down next to Ibiskit, Stormkit stared grumpily at her mother, slowly and deliberately closing her eyes tight. ''Night, night!'' She snapped, grumbling and muttering under her breath. ''I'll have my revenge soon, mama!'' Stormkit promised that much, before breaking off in an almighty yawn. Frustratingly, Mottledwhisker had been right - Stormkit did need to sleep and tiredness threatened to drag her under. Ears twitching, Stormkit rested her head on Ibiskit's shoulder before eventually dozing off. And the night was silent once more.

''Bad times are coming.'' Hawkfur mused. ''I can sense it, it's in the air.''
Acaciathorn barely suppressed a sneer, yellow-eyes blazing with fury. ''Well, it'll be excellent for you.'' She growled, tail bristling like a thorn-bush. Whatever her dark-minded brother had in mind, the lean molly was determined not to let him see it through - She couldn't, she couldn't let him take another innocent life. ''I bet you're practically jumping for joy on the inside.'' Ears twitching, Acaciathorn turned to watch over the camp - It was barely dawn and everyone was still asleep. Apart from the distant cry of a wolf, the desert was silent. Thirstily drinking in the quiet, she shot her brother a lingering glance. ''Hawkfur, why do you do this?'' Acaciathorn's voice was but a sad whisper. They had been as thick as thieves when they were younger and Acaciathorn's heart ached to see the blood between Hawkfur's claws - And her friends laid low by an all-consuming hunger. ''We could've hunted more, we could've begged for scraps...''
''Begging for scraps?'' Hawkfur scoffed derisively. ''You know the twolegs would've simply chased us away, with their horrible monsters and stomping feet.'' The spotted tabby turned towards the sky, faint hints of gold lining the horizon as the sun began to creep over the dunes. ''And if everyone's going to die anyway, why can't I at least try to survive?'' Hawkfur implored, his voice soft and beseeching. ''I don't want to end up like mama or dada.'' Bones peering from thin bellies and eyes hollowed out by the vultures. He shivered, face furrowed with grief - His heart still ached and his belly still growled hungrily. ''You understand, of course.'' Hawkfur smiled at his sister, bumping her shoulder and recognizing his sadness mirrored in her golden-eyes. ''So what if cats have to die?''
Acaciathorn turned and stared at her paws, refusing to look at her brother. ''Can't you hear yourself?'' She muttered, shuffling uncomfortably - Hawkfur had not always been like this, Acaciathorn tried to remind herself, he had once been a cat like her - Normal, one that didn't eat the flesh of their own brethren. ''Talking about killing cats like its the same as swatting flies!'' She snapped, whirling around to face Hawkfur. ''You piece of shit.'' Acaciathorn's heart ached but her claws itched the way it always did when danger was near. Rising to her paws, Acaciathorn bravely faced her brother and swallowed the bile in her throat - Memories of playing, of when Hawkfur had bumped his head as a kitten and had cried until Acaciathorn cuddled up to him, of prey shared under an orange sun - They all fluttered by like birds, and Acaciathorn had to suppress a flinch, eyes gone hard with duty. “I should kill you where you stand” Acaciathorn growled softly, limbs trembling and spine bristling. “Let your blood stain the sand, let the clan chase me away...as long as you are dead.” As long as another innocent cat didn't have to die, as long as there wasn't another Larkpaw.
Hawkfur laughed softly, rising slowly to his paws. “Between you and me, you never did have a stomach for killing.” He ambled up to Acaciathorn, forcing her towards the edge of the wall with a mockingly warm-smile. ''I remember when you used to cry for every mouse you crushed under your paws, it used to drive mama mad.'' Hawkfur continued, his muzzle mere inches from Acaciathorn's face - A skittering of stones rattled on their way down. ''I remember the day you fainted from the stench of blood - I was by your side and I protected you from every word of criticism, every little bit of scorn.'' Hawkfur loomed over his sister, watching her clinging to the stone. ''And as much as I tried to grab you, you slipped and fell to your death...''
Acaciathorn teetered on the edge, staring in shock. ''Hawkfur?'' Her back paws landed on thin air, the wall crumbling away to dust between her toes as the world seemed to totter clumsily. The last thing she saw as she tumbled into a volley of sun, sand and sky was Hawkfur's smiling face - As a kit, he was a bundle of sunshine and never seemed to stop smiling. It was her favourite thing to see as a young kit - And now it seemed damning, that behind those smile lay equally uncaring teeth, that did not care whose flesh it tore and ate. Slowly, she seemed to fall - It was like she was floating, stunned into silence - And then, that was it.
