THE CLAN ( 000 )
This powerful clan lives in an old, overgrown forest formerly inhabited by Twolegs. After the Twolegs abandoned the forest, the trees and foliage quickly overtook the structures and grew twisted around them, thus naming the group of cats hiding out together TwistedClan. Sleeping dens are in different sections of a ruined cabin, with the front half of the structure open to the peaceful forest. The leader’s den is in a hollowed-out section of a giant stump with the medicine cat’s den sheltered underneath in nearby bushes.
TwistedClan prefers to be independent from other Clans and protects their forest borders fiercely. With their independent mindset, they are reluctant to ask for help to keep their own pride. While their hearts are in the right place, they have their own way to achieve their goals and may seem pushy to get what they want.
The cats tend to keep their claws nicely sharpened to help climbing the usually shaped trees and branches. TwistedClan mainly hunts birds and will be up in the trees or on older structures to catch their prey.

THE BEGINNING ( 001 )
Morningstar gazed out over her secluded forest as she sat perched on a log. Birds chirped and swooped above her, but Morningstar paid no attention. She had been living alone for about a moon now and enjoyed having to only worry about herself. However, this cool New-Leaf evening, Morningstar was not satisfied. Morningstar started to score her claws over the log in frustration as she realized that for one of the first times in her life or lives now that she had been granted nine lives, that she was lonely. After sharpening her claws to fine points, she leapt from her lookout to start the journey to the Moonpool. Morningstar hoped to complete the trek before nightfall, so she hurried on her journey to speak with the Ancestors once more. She figured if anyone could help her find a fellow clan member, it would be StarClan.

THE FIRST MEMBER ( 002 )
Morningstar lounged by the Moonpool as she watched the sun crest over the peaceful trees. Her dream was reassuring as StarClan promised to send help, but there was just a tiny seed of doubt in Morningstar's head. Sending a cat her way seems like a monumental request, and she had already pushed herself to her feet when she heard a deep voice behind her.
"Would you happen to be Morningstar?" The voice inquired. Morningstar spun around and saw a dark, long-haired tom with green eyes.
"I am," She dipped her head in greeting. "StarClan answered my prayer. Welcome to TwistedClan."
The tom mirrored her greeting. "Thank you. My name is Storm, and I have travelled far. Can you show me where our camp is?"
Morningstar draped her tail over his shoulders and the two started in the vague direction of the cabin. "Of course, and we will hunt on the way back. I like the name Storm." She paused. "But if you are to join TwistedClan, you shall have a proper warrior name." Storm tried not to show his excitement, but Morningstar still saw his whiskers twitch out of the corner of her eye. "Seeing as it is just us at the moment, I will name you informally." Morningstar paused and faced Storm. "From this moment on, you shall be known as Stormstrike, and I welcome you as a full member of TwistedClan." She briefly rested her muzzle on Stormstrike's head.
They continued on their walk through the forest, ducking under branches and hopping over fallen branches and logs. Stormstrike was the first to break the semi-comfortable silence. "Did I hear you correctly when you said it was just us two in the Clan so far?" His voice was disbelieving.
"For now, but I expect that to change." Morningstar replied brightly. "It's nice to start slow as I'm not really used to being around other cats."
"Not much of a Clan with only two members." Stormstrike muttered to himself.
"Excuse me?" Morningstar retorted sharply. She shouldered him away. "Let's see how accomplished you are at hunting." She leaped onto a low branch and looked back down at the tom still on the ground. "Coming?"

THE NEW DENS ( 003 )
The first moon living with another cat was...an experience for Morningstar. Stormstrike was friendly enough, but with just the two of them, she was almost at her wits end. Morningstar started to appreciate separate patrols where she could still have uninterrupted thoughts. Patrolling TwistedClan's borders became one of her favorite activities since she could leap from tree to tree, watching the forest sway and move from above. Eventually, she would have to come back down to reality and return to the cabin.
"Hey, check this out!" Stormstrike called out when he saw his leader returning to camp. He led Morningstar into the shelter of the already built walls. Stormstrike gestured to the piles of moss and long grass by the entrance. "I collected some new bedding." He flicked his tail to the other side where Morningstar saw his revamped nest in his corner.
"That's great." Morningstar trailed off. "But mine is...?"
"That is another thing I did today." Stormstrike said smugly. "Follow me." Stormstrike bounded out to a nearby stump. The stump in question was from an old sycamore tree that was almost three cats wide. It was hollow with a small entry hole from years of badger and fox den use, but now those scents were thankfully very faint. "Take a look inside." Stormstrike nudged the leader closer. Morningstar ducked her head into the hollow space. Inside was another nest lined with feathers, rivaling the size of the warrior's nest previously seen inside. "What do you think?"
"Looks comfy." Morningstar placed on paw on the moss, and it squished down satisfactory. "Very soft."
"That's good," Stormstrike puffed out his chest. "I took it upon myself to make sure you have a proper leader's nest."
Morningstar was briefly taken aback. "You made this for me?" She gracefully leapt into stump and turned around. The space was surprisingly large enough for about two cats and the slight wooden scent of the old tree was soothing.
"I figured when our Clan grows, we'll need more space for warriors, and a leader should have a special place, right?" He was clearly very proud of this idea, and Morningstar was amused.
"Good job," She praised him finally and climbed out of her own stump. "Although next time, I would prefer if you ran ideas by me first." Seeing him deflate a little, she continued. "I do appreciate the thought."
Stormstrike nodded in acknowledgement. "Thank you, Morningstar. What's next?"

THE TALKATIVE ONE ( 004 )
LAST MOON Morningstar was enjoying her solo patrol, remarking borders when a black and white cat waltzed by through the trees. He seemed to be searching for something as his nose was pointed to the ground with his gaze flickering back and forth. Morningstar narrowed her eyes.
"Can I help you?" She asked coldly.
The tom's head snapped forward. "I suppose. You live around here?" He looked at their surroundings. "There are a lot of good herbs in this part of the forest."
Morningstar stepped forward. "This is TwistedClan's territory." She realized how aggressive she sounded and softened her voice. They couldn't build up a Clan if she drove possible Clanmates away. "If you want, you could come visit the cabin and see if you would like to stay with us."
The tom sized her up. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt." He replied eventually. "Living with more cats makes life easier, no?"
"This way," Morningstar walked a step ahead of this cat while he talked a mile a minute.
"Back there, there was a fenced in spot, all overgrown with weeds, but I saw sprouts of catmint growing! That will be great for whitecough and greencough, especially since those are contagious. There were other herbs, like dock, over by the pines on the other side of the creek." The cat paused his mutterings to take a breath.
Morningstar used this moment to interject. "I don't think you've told me your name." She glanced behind her at the sleek cat.
"You haven't introduced yourself either but fair enough." The cat shrugged. "I'm Tango."
"Hmm," she thought, "I'll give you a warrior name once you live in TwistedClan."
"Warrior?" Tango repeated. "I would prefer to keep my paws clean, thank you very much."
Morningstar pondered this. "Then I think I have a different spot open for you."
PRESENT Stormstrike returned to the cabin with a magpie hanging from his mouth. He spat it out and shook his head to rid himself of any stray feathers. Spottednose, formally Tango, lounged in the sunlight streaming through the open part of the roof. Morningstar was cleaning her ears lazily, enjoying the heat.
"Good catch, Stormstrike." The leader purred. "I was going to go hunting in a moment; care to join me?" Her warrior nodded and stretched.
"Always ready for food!" He exclaimed.
Spottednose rolled over to sun his other side. "And I'll just be here."
"No," Morningstar pushed him up as she passed by. "You can go hunt for your fancy leaves."
The medicine cat grumbled as exited the cabin. "Just don't mess with my fancy leaves, I just organized them."

THE EMPTY RANK ( 005 )
Morningstar was uneasy. Spottednose was fitting in with the Clan so far; he already set up a comfy medicine can den underneath large bushes that lined a side of the cabin. Stormstrike had helped him create comfortable nests for Spottednose and potential sick cats. For once, the fresh-kill pile was actually a pile, although a small one, and the birds were sweetly singing in the beautiful new-leaf weather. Everything seemed perfect. Regardless, Morningstar was still uneasy. She almost couldn't put her mind on it. She had a loyal friend who would fight by her side and a medicine cat with a good nose for herbs. Who else could she possibly need? She stretched to clear her head and walked over to the two toms discussing recent hunts.
"I still don't understand why you think it's fun to chase birds and squirrels around the place," Spottednose was saying. "I prefer cobwebs and plants that don't move."
Stormstrike cast a bemused look at his leader that just joined them. "You don't get an adrenaline rush from digging up leaves." He countered.
"First of all, you don't dig up leaves. That would kill the plant instead of giving them another chance of sprouting which is pointless." Spottednose took a deep breath to continue his next lecture.
Morningstar decided to cut this conversation short. "How about you continue to look for herbs, Spottednose?" She suggested. Stormstrike looked relieved at the change of topic. "And Stormstrike, you could check our borders."
"Right-o, boss." The warrior chirped.
"Alright," Spottednose said reluctantly. "But I am looking forward to eating that squirrel when I get back."
"Sharing that squirrel." Morningstar absentmindedly corrected.
"Fine, sharing." Spottednose huffed and trailed Stormstrike out into the forest.
The leader sat alone watching the branches dip and sway in the breeze for a time. Hearing the various forest noises, she suddenly felt very small in a large world. She was now responsible for other cats' lives. Their successes and their failures rested on her decisions. Once again, she felt lonely even with her new Clanmates. The last time she felt like this, she depended on her ancestors to send her what she needed. StarClan did promise her that she was never truly alone.
While Morningstar would have preferred to tell the other two where she was going off to, she didn't want to put off another visit to the Moonpool any longer. Hoping not to run into any trouble, Morningstar started off towards the Moonpool to ask for a faithful deputy.

THE DOMINO EFFECT ( 006 )
LAST MOON Stormstrike burst into camp with even more excitement than usual. Morningstar did not know how he was always so full of energy. Following behind him timidly was a small white cat with soft spots. For a second, Morningstar thought the cat must have been the deputy she had previously asked for, but after closer look, the cat wasn't just small, she was young. She was also trembling.
"I found her by the border," Stormstrike murmured in Morningstar's ear. "She's alone and quite scared. I said we'd help her."
When Morningstar took a step closer, the young cat shrunk into Stormstrike's side. "No, it's okay." He softly reassured her. "She's the one I was telling you about. You can trust her." He stepped sideways but was still within a tail's reach of her. The cat slowly met Morningstar's gaze.
"What's your name?" Morningstar was grateful that her warrior had befriended this little one. The Clan needed fresh, trainable faces.
"I-I don't know," Her voice was so quiet, they had to lean in to hear. "No one needed to call me anything before."
"But she would like to live in TwistedClan and receive a warrior name eventually." Stormstrike helped her out by adding this information. At this point, Spottednose's curiosity got the better of him, and he joined the group which caused the cat to start trembling all over again.
"She seems healthy enough," Spottednose sniffed. "Young but nicely built."
"This is Spottednose." Morningstar shot him a glance that clearly said, "Stop talking". He rolled his eyes lightheartedly and went off to hunt for herbs. "Right now," Morningstar continued and addressed the newcomer, "you will be an apprentice to Stormstrike. Until you become a warrior, you shall be known as Rainpaw."
She didn't know which cat looked happier with this announcement, Stormstrike or Rainpaw.
Meanwhile ~ It's herb time with Spottednose! ~
Spottednose discovered that traveling along the lowest branches and horizontally grown trunks made spotted different plants easier. A corner cut was a moon saved in his mind. As his eyes were scanning the ground for important plants, he was hoping that Rainpaw stuck with being a warrior. While she was timid, she also was built better for fighting and not for remembering different medicines. Shaking his head, he revisited the herb stock in his mind. He was proud of his previous finds but there was always room for more, especially if the Clan was growing. Thankfully, he spotted a newly sprouting comfrey plant sheltered near a cedar tree. Spottednose didn't collect very much of it, leaving plenty to grow back, but was still satisfied when another bush caught his eye.
Deathberries! He thought. He knew what those berries were right away, of course. Growing up, he had witnessed a squirrel finding one in the snow, and it must have been starving because it gobbled it right up. The squirrel had keeled over dead a few moments later. While debating whether or not to destroy the entire bush or not, deathberries in the territory was just a tragedy waiting to happen, footsteps from behind him caused him to whirl around. He dropped his earlier herb finds and raised his haunches.
"Hello there," A silky voice said, and a golden tabby stepped into the clearing. "I am Copperleaf."
Spottednose guessed that was some sort of a warrior name but didn't know if that was better or worse. "And?" He prompted. While his first instinct is always to talk, he was put on guard standing next to the deathberry bush.
"StarClan sent me to help lead your Clan." Copperleaf had some sort of a caring radiance about her that Spottednose automatically didn't like.
"Well, they must have been wrong," Spottednose didn't like disrespecting StarClan like that but he can apologize later tonight. This cat needed to get told. "We already have a leader!"
Copperleaf chuckled. "Of course, but I will be her deputy." Spottednose did remember Morningstar asking StarClan for a deputy, and he did figure one more cat could help fill the fresh-kill pile.
"Alright, follow me." Spottednose gathered his comfrey back in his mouth along with a small pair of deathberries. You know, just in case this new deputy didn't work out. Copperleaf was welcomed heartily back at TwistedClan.
PRESENT Copperleaf was fitting well into the Clan. Spottednose hadn't poisoned her yet, so that was also a good sign. The medicine cat did inform Morningstar of his plan just in case, but she wasn't too worried. Spottednose had a good heart, however lazy it may like to be. For now, the deathberries were stashed in the very back of the bushes along the medicine den to hopefully prevent accidents. While Morningstar doubted poison in camp was necessarily the best idea, perhaps it would come in handy later. Stormstrike was also a great match to mentor Rainpaw. She was turning into an eager apprentice and enjoyed learning the aspects of Clan life.
Overall, Morningstar thought as she closed her eyes in content, it has been a very successful start to TwistedClan.

THE GOSSIP ( 007 )
Copperleaf took in the camp through narrowed eyes. This was an odd assortment of cats, but they did work well together she supposed. The leader sat next to her, cleaning her ears. "Rainpaw seems to be getting along just fine." Morningstar broke the silence.
Copperleaf hummed before answering. "I suppose." She paused. "It seems the quiet ones are always the most dangerous, though." She let that suggestion settle over the leader and was pleased to see she was a bit rattled.
Morningstar shifted her weight. "I don't think Rainpaw is a threat." She decided. "And that also means that Spottednose would be the least dangerous cat of all time, and he is the one with access to poison." Morningstar said offhandedly.
Copperleaf's ears perked up at the word 'poison'. "Poison?" She asked in a voice she hoped was completely innocent.
"Hmm?" Morningstar started cleaning her other ear. "A couple moons ago, Spottednose found deathberries. He won't use them, however." She added when her deputy was surprised.
Copperleaf kept silent even though that was interesting information. Very interesting information.
Spottednose sat with Stormstrike and Rainpaw listening to recounts of training sessions and patrols. He wasn't the most intrigued in this conversation, but it was good to have the background noise.
"Don't you ever get bored of digging up herbs?" Rainpaw's question brought Spottednose back into the conversation.
"Not really." He shrugged. "It's a whole lot easier than chasing birds too."
"But you don't get an adrenaline rush from plants like you do when you snatch a bird from midair!" Stormstrike good-naturedly argued. Spottednose was somewhat amused.
"If you convert me into a warrior, you'll have to find someone else to care for your poor torn claws." Spottednose flicked his tail over his sore paws.
"Hmph." Stormstrike didn't answer and the conversation turned to another topic soon after.
Rainpaw watched the sunrise through the open slates of the roof from her nest before stretching and heading out into the clearing for the patrols of the day. Copperleaf stood with her long fur swaying gently in the breeze waiting for the Clan members to wake. Morningstar and Stormstrike walked out of the cabin together shortly after Rainpaw arrived.
"Would you two be okay with coming on a hunting patrol with me before Morningstar leaves for the Moonpool?" Copperleaf's silky voice was soft in the morning light. "After that, Stormstrike can train Rainpaw and I'll patrol our borders."
"Can't I come?" Rainpaw asked in a small voice.
Copperleaf regarded her. While she did good with Stormstrike learning the basics of hunting, Copperleaf's look made her second guess her abilities. "We need someone to stay and watch camp." The deputy decided.
"What about Spottednose?" Rainpaw hated how her voice almost sounded whiny, but she wanted to prove herself in front of her mentor, leader, and deputy.
"He'll hopefully be doing something productive." Copperleaf pointedly spoke loudly to the medicine den bushes.
"Yeah, yeah, I hear you." His voice called out. "Give me a few more moments of sleep."
"Next time." Copperleaf's eyes were now filled with warmth, but Rainpaw's tail still drooped.
So now Rainpaw sat alone in the middle of the clearing where Copperleaf was just standing so majestically, but Rainpaw just looked small and pitiful in the middle of the large forest. Rainpaw listened to the quiet forest sounds for a while before lashing her tail in anger. Even Spottednose had dragged himself out of his nest to go collect herbs. Nothing was going to happen, and now she's just wasting her time!
Making a split-second decision, Rainpaw looked around to make sure any of the warriors weren't coming back and dashed into the forest. If they weren't going to take her on their patrol, she would make her own.

THE NEW MEMBERS ( 008 ) LAST MOON Rainpaw trotted back towards camp with a small shrew clutched in her maw. While she wasn't necessarily surprised that she caught something because she knew how to hunt, she was surprised that the hunt went semi-smoothly. Rainpaw was very on edge the entire morning, jumping at every rustle, hoping it wasn't Copperleaf's patrol in the area. It took a while for Rainpaw to calm down enough to properly stalk the shrew. Now that it was dead in her jaws, she was thrilled to have contributed to the Clan. That feeling started to disappear, however, as she approached the edge of camp. She heard the somewhat distressed Stormstrike's voice echoing throughout the trees before she even entered.
"You don't think some other cats snatched her?" Rainpaw heard him exclaim. It only now dawned on her that she might be missed if she got back later than she originally planned. Wanting to disappear back into the city rather than face her distraught mentor, she slunk around to the back of the cabin, hoping to be unnoticed. Maybe she could play this off as she took a nap in the cabin and her Clanmates just simply missed her in her nest. Unfortunately, she didn't get a chance to try anything as Morningstar spotted her slinking against the ground.
"Rainpaw," Morningstar's voice was sharp. "Come. Here. Now." Rainpaw froze. She had never heard the leader sound so angry. Keeping her head down, she stopped in front of Stormstrike and Morningstar with the shrew hanging limply from her mouth. She should have dropped it outside the camp somewhere, but it was too late now.
"Rainpaw!" Stormstrike started but a swift flick of Morningstar's tail halted him.
"What is in your mouth?" The leader's voice was harsh.
"Just a bird." Rainpaw set it down gently at her feet. Her voice was barely above a whisper.
"And how did you get that bird?"
"I..." She found no reason to lie at this point. "Caught it." Perhaps if she was looking up, Rainpaw would have seen flashes of pride on both Stormstrike and Morningstar's faces. "I-I'm sorry, I just wanted to..." Rainpaw trailed off.
"We were worried about you," Morningstar now had a sliver of warmth in her voice now. "Perhaps if you followed directions, you could have accompanied me to the Moonpool."
"I'm really sorry." Rainpaw repeated.
"What's done is done." Morningstar dipped her head to rest it on Rainpaw's. "You'll remember this lesson for next time."
"Yes, Morningstar.”
Copperleaf was crouched in the trees, watching. She had gone a little past the currently marked borders, seeing if there was any other valuable surrounding areas they could possibly use. The trees over here, however, were younger and less sturdy. Copperleaf wasn't enjoying the amount of dipping the branch was doing under her weight, but her mind was preoccupied as there was a light molly sniffing the marked TwistedClan's borders down below. She assessed the new cat; she looked strong enough and well-fed. A good candidate for another warrior, Copperleaf thought. So, she snaked her way down the shaky tree to greet the cat.
The molly watched Copperleaf approach with guarded eyes. "Are these your scent markers?"
"Yes, they are TwistedClan's borders. If you want to come any farther, you would either have to fight or come with me to join our ranks." Copperleaf offered. The molly sized her up. If a fight did break out, it looked like it would be an even match.
"I'll come with you, but I'll keep my claws out." The new cat decided.
"Good decision." Copperleaf pushed past her, still focused on finishing her border patrol. "I'll show you where our territory ends on the off-chance you don't stay.
Morningstar was pleased with the new Clanmate Copperleaf brought back. She had christened her Birchwhisker, and she seemed like a proper fighter. Birchwhisker would be a nice addition to the Clan as a strong warrior. While Stormstrike may look intimidating, he was perhaps annoyingly nice. Copperleaf was no stranger to scraps either, but she preferred to manipulate her opponents, and the scariest thing about Spottednose was his ability to sleep through anything. Morningstar appreciated Birchwhisker's muscles shining through her groomed fur and knew she didn't want to get on her bad side.
PRESENT Stormstrike was overseeing Rainpaw's punishment of sneaking out of camp of clearing out all the old nests when he smelled a new cat off in the brush. "Hello?" He called out, frightening his working apprentice.
The leaves shook as a small orange tabby burst through. "Is this TwistedClan?" The unknown tom cat asked.
"Yes," Stormstrike was too excited to notice Rainpaw hiding behind him. "You know of us?"
"I don't know about that." The tom shrugged. "Dead cats told me to come here, and I spend my life trying not to be dead, so I listened to them."
"Good enough. I'm Stormstrike, and this is Rainpaw." He glanced around before realizing the apprentice crouched behind him. He shuffled to the side, so she was visible. Rainpaw did not enjoy this.
"I'm Star." The tom introduced.
That name will definitely have to change. Stormstrike thought as he led Star towards the center of camp. Or keep it and become the next leader.
After thinking of this brilliant career path, Stormstrike was disappointed the tom was appointed as Sunchaser and would never become Starstar.
Spottednose was becoming paranoid. It seemed that every day he had to find a new place to store the deathberries to make sure they were safe and out of the way. Now he was beginning to regret bringing them into the camp to begin with. He practically jumped out of his skin when Stormstrike dropped by to say hello or whatever.
"Um, sorry." Stormstrike chuckled. "I didn't mean to startle you."
"It's fine." Spottednose hurriedly swept the berries underneath beech leaves he had recently collected. "Just tidying up." He grabbed the bundle and placed it at the very base of the main bush that was storing the medicine herbs.
"There's another new cat!" Stormstrike continued on. "Sunchaser!"
"Great, another name to remember." Spottednose muttered.
"Also, if you need any help cleaning, Rainpaw would be available." Stormstrike said as he turned away. "It's nice that Morningstar wasn't too hard on her since she did have a successful hunt, but I'm not sure Rainpaw's too pleased with having to tidy around the camp for another moon."
"I'll let you know if I need her." Spottednose said but knew he would never take him up on the offer. Too much liability.
"Anyway, I'm off to charm Birchwhisker into hunting with me." Stormstrike waved his tail energetically. "Wish me luck."
"More like good luck to her." Spottednose shot back. Stormstrike just laughed.
